15+ Meat Choices at GEN Korean BBQ House

by - Friday, February 09, 2018

I am a fan of Korean barbeque. Many may hate me for declaring this since I sort of eat it the wrong way, that is, without the sauces and the kimchi. I like it plain. Just my samgyupsal or woo samgyup with a bowl of plain rice.

My siblings and I planned on going to this Korean barbeque place in Ortigas. We have been to their branch in Makati, and since my sister loved this place, we were excited to try it again. Our little dinner was pushed a day later (from Saturday to Sunday), which meant that we had to choose another restaurant since the one we had in mind was closed. I looked for the next best option, and we landed on Gen Korean BBQ.

I have been eyeing on this place even before it opened, but when it did, I was surprised to see how costly it is. Thankfully, Gen Korean BBQ, in partnership with Booky Manila, offered a buy 1 get 1 on their eat & drink all you can, for only P998! From this deal, you can already try 15 of Gen's meats, with 7 choices of drinks to wash them down with for a maximum of 2 hours (although they weren't strict with this).

We went nuts and ordered everything on the menu on the first few rounds, just so we can try them all and see what we like. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to wow me. And because I like my Korean BBQ plain, I had a lot of woo beasal (beef belly) and premium chadol (thinly sliced premium angus brisket). We kept eating and eating but didn't really feel satisfied, probably because we were looking for a taste different from what we were consuming.

I can say that this buy 1 get 1 deal is totally worth the buck, but sad to say that I wouldn't go without it. For a person who loves it plain and simple, the 500-peso unlimited samgyupsal offered by other Korean buffets is more than enough to make me happy.
